The 67th National Film Awards were announced on Monday and Marathi film Anandi Gopal has won in two categories best feature film on social issues and production design.
Marathi film Anandi Gopal which is based on true story of India’s first female physicians Anandi Gopal, won prestigious National Film Awards in two categories best feature film on social issues and production design. The film has been directed by 'Dobule Seat' director Sameer Vidhwans and produced by Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora’s of Namah Pictures.
The story of the film is based on young girl Anandi Gopal Joshi from Kalyan, Maharashtra who went on to became one of the first Indian female practitioners of western medicine with the help of her husband Gopalrao. She studied medicine at Women’s Medical College in Pennsylvania.
The titular role of Anandi Gopal is played by Bhagyshree Milind and Anandi's husband Gopalrao role is played by Lalit Prabhakar. The National Film Awards winning work of production design was done by Nilesh Wagh and Sunil Nigwekar and Anandi Gopal team.
